Tulsa, OK - [June 27, 2024] - GT Law Firm, which has over 30 years of experience handling wrongful death and personal injury cases, recently obtained a $10 million verdict against a Tulsa area nursing home for the family of a resident who died from neglect.

According to the court file, Guy Thiessen, the principal attorney at GT Law, represented the resident’s family in the wrongful death trial claiming that the nursing home ignored clear signs and symptoms of urinary tract infection (UTI). It was asserted that the nursing home staff failed to report the infection to a doctor or the resident’s family, who was unable to visit their loved-one because the nursing home was on a lockdown. GT Law argued that the nursing home staff did not take any action for over 10 days. Consequently, the infection progressed to sepsis and required emergency hospitalization. By then, the resident’s health had deteriorated to the point that she died.

When presenting the case, GT Law demonstrated that the nursing home failed to properly train and supervise its nursing staff, which ultimately resulted in the death of the resident. After three hours of deliberation, the jury found in favor of the victim’s family and awarded a total of $10 million in damages.

The $10 million verdict obtained by GT Law is reported to be the largest jury verdict in the State of Oklahoma against a nursing home.
